Meet Mel

I grew up outside of Philadelphia. After graduating from college, I dreamed of attending medical school but stopped; it wasn’t the right path for me. My second choice was to become a high school English teacher in my local community. This is where my connection to storytelling began.

After my teaching career ended, I spent time in the corporate world. I’ve explored different paths, including graduate studies in Journalism and even applying to a federal intelligence agency, but ultimately continued building a career in business, including work with a mining operation in Georgia.

Writing, however, was always waiting in my mind.

In my fifties, I finally began my first novel mid-flight, turning to my wife and saying, “I’m writing a book, Almost, about special U.S. Marines called MARSOC.” That moment marked the beginning of a new career. While that first manuscript remains unfinished, it led me to write Remaking Abbi, which followed a young woman rebuilding her life through a series of transformative events. The first book led to writing two others, Moving On and Bonding which now comprises The Abigail Carter Detective Series.

I continue to write with a focus on character, resilience, and the complexity of human experience. I’ve also begun work on a new novel exploring the life of a CIA agent reflecting on his past, Survival.

I never intended to write for commercial success, but to leave something meaningful behind for family, friends, and readers. I’ve been fortunate to share my life with my wife, Renee, whose support has made both my career and writing journey possible.
